Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of conflict within the Jawara culture of Banten from violence as an instrument of power to deliberation as a strategy of social negotiation. The research employs a literature review method by examining relevant scholarly articles and journals. The analysis is based on Bartos and Wehr’s conflict theory, which views conflict as a social phenomenon that can be transformed through changes in relationships and resolution mechanisms. The findings indicate that conflict resolution within Jawara culture has shifted from physical confrontation toward more dialogic approaches through deliberation and the concept of deduluran (brotherhood). This transformation is influenced by modernization, education, religious values, and stronger legal institutions. The study concludes that Jawara culture has adapted to social change while preserving its cultural identity and promoting more constructive conflict resolution in contemporary Banten society.
